HUNTER/JUMPER RULES AND REGULATIONS

ELIGIBILITY

(a) For show purposes, ponies are to be divided as follows: 
"A" Ponies - over 13.2 hands, but not to exceed 14.2 hands 
"B" Ponies - over 12.2hands, but not to exceed 13.2 hands 
"C" Ponies – do not exceed 12.2 hands G406 (p38).

(b) Riders in Pony Hunter Classes 
Junior A Riders may not ride "B" or "C" ponies 
Junior B Riders may ride "A", "B" or "C" ponies 
Junior C Riders may ride "A", "B" or "C" ponies 

EQUITATION

(a) Individuals are juniors until the end of the calendar year in which they reach the age of 18.

Junior "A" – Riders are classified as Junior "A" from the beginning of the calendar year in which they reach the age of 16 to the end of the calendar year in which they turn 18. For 2011, ‘A’ Equitation riders are those born in 1993, 1994, and 1995.

Junior "B" - Riders are classified as Junior "B" from the beginning of the calendar year in which they turn 13 to the end of the calendar year in which they turn 15. For 2011 ‘B’ Equitation Riders are those born in 1996, 1997, and 1998.

Junior "C" - Riders are classified as Junior "C" until the end of the calendar year in which they turn 12. For 2011 ‘C’ Equitation Riders are those born in 1999, 2000, and 2001.

(b) Equitation "A" Over Fences – Notwithstanding Equine Canada Article G1007 3b, eligible Pony Riders, Children's and Junior Riders will jump their respective fence heights and distances. (To be formally amended at the November 2011 Meeting and rebranded to avoid conflict with changes to EC rules)

(c) Adult Equitation - Adult equitation riders must be Amateurs.

(d) A horse/pony ridden in an Equitation Over Fences class or in the Jumper Medal may only be ridden in that class by one rider.

(e) Passports are required for equitation classes.

HACK DIVISION

(a) Horses in this Division may be of any breed or combination of breeds, must have a natural action, i.e., not high and/or weighted, and must be over 14.2 hands. Passports not required. The Hack Division shall consist of Road, Show and Pleasure.

(b) Martingales, breastplates, boots of any kind and/or bandages are not allowed. Dropped and flash nosebands are prohibited. Brow bands shall be leather of any description but not solid white, coloured or sequenced. F1004.3/4/5 Whips not permitted in any hack class. F1006.

HUNTER

(a) Low Hunter (3’) – Open to all horses and riders. As this division is included in the core program, horses placing in the Low Hunter classes cannot be excused from jogging into the ring prior to receiving their award. Failure to jog will result in the forfeiting of their placing.

(b) Adult Amateur (3’) - Riders must have Amateur Status as per Equine Canada rules. Riders may only cross enter into hunter classes where the height does not exceed 3’3” and jumper classes where the height does not exceed 3’9”. See EC Article G309.

 (c) Children's Hunter (3’) – Open to all juniors. Riders may only cross enter into hunter classes where the height does not exceed 3’3” and jumper classes where the height does not exceed 3’9”. See EC Article G307.

(d) Modified Junior/Amateur Hunter (3’3) – Open to all Junior and Adult Amateur riders including Children's Hunter and Adult Amateur riders.

(e) Trillium Hunter Hi/Low (3’3”-3’6”) – Open to all riders except Children's Hunter and Adult Amateur riders at the 3’6” height. Open the Children’s Hunters and Adult Amateurs at the 3’3” height.

(f) Short Stirrup Division (21”) – Riders must meet the ‘C’ Equitation age requirements. Short Stirrup riders are not allowed to enter any other classes except for ‘C’ Equitation on the flat. Short Stirrup riders require OEF, THJA memberships, and silver EC sport licenses. Short Stirrup horses and ponies must have a passport. For the over fences classes there will be a maximum of eight (8) fences, vertical or oxer, to a maximum height of 18". Both horses and ponies may be entered but lines (distances) will not be adjusted.

(g) Small/Medium Pony – This division will be split at the Championship Show, and may be split at the zone level if there are sufficient entries.

(h) Modified Child/Adult Hunter (2’9”) – Modified Child/Adult Hunter: Open to all horses, Juniors and Amateurs. “No Professionals”. Fences not to exceed 2’9”. Throughout the year the Adults and Children will run under one card with one set of ribbons. At the end of the season the top 7 Adults and the top 7 Children will be invited to attend the championships. At the Championship Show the Adults and Children will be split into two divisions. Riders may enter other divisions with a different horse. Horses may enter other divisions with another rider.

(i) Modified Child/Adult Medal (2’9”) - A relatively simple equitation class over fences. Fences not to exceed 2’9”. A minimum of 6 riders will be called back to do a phase on the flat. Points do not count towards the Modified Child/Adult Division. Throughout the year the class will run under one card with one set of ribbons. At the end of the season the top 7 Adults and the top 7 Children will be invited to attend the championships. At the championships the Adults and Children will be split into two classes. 

(j) 2’6” Open Hunter Division – Open to horses only. Cross entry into any other divisions for horse/rider combination is not allowed.  

JUMPER

Trillium Jumper (3’6”) - This division is part of the core program with points accumulating to qualify for the Trillium Championships. Standing martingales, German martingales and draw reins are not allowed for any competitor in this division. Juniors and Amateurs may cross enter into this division.

.90m Training Jumper – Open to everyone including ponies. Maximum height .90 metre. Run as Table A.

1m Training Jumper – Open to everyone. No ponies allowed. Maximum height 1 metre. May be run with immediate jump off format for Table A classes.

1m Junior/Amateur Jumper Division (Formerly Child/Adult Jumper) – Maximum height of fences is 1 metre. Open to ponies (ridden by juniors) and horses. To be run concurrently with 1m Training Jumper (one course walk,  two sets of ribbons, two sets of judge’s cards). Open to Junior and Amateur riders only. Standing martingales allowed but German martingales and draw reins are prohibited. Points accumulate to qualify for Trillium Championship Show. Fence height 3'–3'3" 50% of the fences may be raised to 3'3". No cross-entry from Child/Adult Jumper to Trillium Jumper on the same horse. A rider may ride one horse in Child/Adult provided he/she is a Children's or Adult Amateur rider, and a second horse in the Trillium Jumper.  

TRILLIUM JUMPER MEDAL

Open to Junior and Amateur riders only. This class will have both an over fences and a flat phase, with the over fences phase being completed first. 50% of competitors, or a maximum of 12, to be called back to complete the flat phase of the competition. Tack and Equipment of horse and rider as per Equine Canada Jumper rules for recognized jumper divisions, and must remain the same for both phases. Martingales are allowed in the flat phase. Maximum height 3'3". The top four (4) riders will complete a short test determined by the Judge.
